NURSING Overview

 

Currently, nursing students from Concordia University participate in two – three week electives at Hillside with their program faculty at various times of the year.  A year round nursing program is being developed for bachelor’s level and nurse practitioner students in 2007.  The clinic nursing director along with long term nurse volunteers from abroad will act as preceptors and mentors for volunteer student nurses beginning in January 2007.  The general objectives are the same as those for the Medical Education Program.  Nurses in bachelors and master’s level programs are welcome to apply and spend two weeks to one month volunteering with Hillside.  Significant components of the nursing work includes community health education in villages and schools, conducting home visits, assisting the Ministry of Health with the well mother-child and immunization programs, and assisting the medical providers.  Nurse practitioner students will participate with the physician assistant and medical students in direct patient care.
